History of Dunluce Castle
This Castle was constructed in the 13th century for the MacQuillan family who was a pretty powerful family at that time. After their fall the castle was handed over to many powerful families and dynasties.
But in the 16th century, it was passed to the Macdonnell family who was known to be the most influential people of that time. Being one of the wealthiest families, they expanded the fort and built several things like the garden and various halls.
Later in the 17th century, this significant fortress was partially destroyed during the war of the three kingdoms. The castle was later abandoned and then later turned into an attractive and famous tourist attraction in Northern Ireland.
Exploring Dunluce Castle
You can also opt for a guided tour to make the most of your visit. It will take you through all the rooms, chambers, halls, and staircases of the fort.
It’s a really different experience altogether listening to the stories. Like once there was such a storm in which the sea water level rose so much that it destroyed the meal prepared in the Kitchen. But there was a maid preparing the meal in the kitchen who unfortunately died because the kitchen crashed into the sea. Since then people say that they still experience her creams and some paranormal activities
There is also an arched bridge which I suggest visiting. It gives a complete view of the whole place and the mighty sea in front of you. Walking on that bridge is really an experience of its own. Watching the sea waves on both the side and the height really made me thrilled.
You will be thrilled to know that this castle played a very significant role in the Battle of Dunluce in 1588.
