However, Florence is a large city and has a lot to offer tourists. Here is the list of top things to do in Florence.
When I visited Florence, I had great fun exploring the places and watching some of the world-famous art created by Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. In this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about places to visit in Florence.
7 Things to do in Florence Italy
Florence Cathedral
If you are planning to visit Florence, you must have heard about this place. It is known to be one of the major attractions in Florence, and I can assure you it’s worth the hype.
Florence Cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It is one of the largest churches in the world. And to be honest, I haven’t seen a more beautiful church than this.
The interiors of the church are so great that they will stop you on your feet the first time you enter. The insides of the large dome have some intricate detailing, which is amusing to the eyes.
Piazzale Michelangelo
When you step into Florence, get ready to be used to the name Michelangelo. You will find his great work throughout the city and I loved it. Piazzale Michelangelo is a great place if you want to find some time and have a great view of the city.
The place is famous for the panoramic view it provides of the city, which can make one fall in love with Florence. Along with that, if you are a fan of sunsets, then this place will be a treat for you. The only catch is that you have to hike a bit, but again, it’s worth the hard work.
Ponte Vecchio
Ponte Vecchio is a bridge over the beautiful Arno river in Florence. The bridge is an amazing spot to click some nice pictures.
It is one of the oldest bridges constructed in the world, but it looks very aesthetically pleasing. Walking on the beach in the evening was an unforgettable experience as the whole vibe was so soothing.
Along with that, you will find many shops around the bridge that give a taste of ancient Florence.
Giotto’s Campanile
The reason for putting this place on the list is that it is one of the cherished buildings in Florence and is within walking distance of the Florence Cathedral.
It is again one of the most aesthetic places I found in Florence, but you have to be quite fit to get a great view from the building. There are approximately 400-450 steps in the building, so do some warm-up before taking up this task.
Statue Of David
If you are an art geek, then you must know that the Statue of David is the most talked about sculpture in the world. It was created by Michelangelo and is known to be one of his great works. Well, I agree because it was a great piece of art to look at.
The Statue of David is situated in the Piazza Della Signoria, which is known to be one of the most talked about places in Florence. It is definitely worth the visit as the vibe of the place is quite great too.
Piazza Del Duomo
It is also known as the Duomo di Firenze and is one of the best places I visited in Florence. I was taken aback by how good the whole view was.
It is known to be the biggest building in Florence and the biggest dome ever constructed in Italian history. Climbing on top of it, you can look at the great architecture and the scenic views the city has to offer.
One of the great things about the Duomo is that you can get a pass and check out the famous places around it, such as Florence Cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and Baptistry
UFFIZI GALLERY
I saved the Uffizi Gallery for last because, well, last but not least. This is one of the greatest museums in Florence, which is home to some of the greatest art ever created in Italy. After visiting this museum, you will understand why Italians are known to have a deep impression when it comes to architecture.
The museum has two floors but it will take you hours to explore the whole museum because, just like me, you are going to be struck by some great sculptures and paintings it has.
From the famous works of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello, and many more, the place is heaven for art lovers. You can get a lot of information about the sculptures here, and they have some interesting stories involved too. I had a great time here because I got to learn a lot about famous painters.
